The Alabama Farmers Federation turns 100 this year, and that’s worthy of a year’s long celebration! In summer, the community in and around Montgomery, where the Federation is headquartered, joined in the celebration during Family Farm Fun Day as part of the Farm & Land Expo. Families enjoyed hay rides, a tractor show, farmers market and petting zoo.
We keep the 100th anniversary celebration going as we talk Federation history with folks who have helped lead the Alabama Farmers Federation at state and county levels throughout the years — Richard Edgar of Elmore County, L.O. Bishop of Colbert County and Gloria Jeffcoat of Houston County.
We’ll wrap up our special Centennial episode of Simply Southern with reflections from Alabama Farmers Federation members who are currently serving in state leadership roles. Mark Byrd of Morgan County is District 2 director on the State Board of Directors, Jonathan Sanders of Coffee County is a State Young Farmers Committee member, and Grace Ellis of Autauga County is in the current class of A.L.F.A. Leaders.
It’s quick. It’s easy. It’s a meal even picky eaters enjoy. And it doesn’t have to come from a can. Enjoy this recipe for Homemade Sloppy Joes from Stacey Little of SouthernBite.com.
