Limestone County is known for its fantastic farmland, but it’s also a breeding ground for leaders of the Alabama Farmers Federation‘s Young Farmers program. Since its creation in 1958, eight of the group’s chairmen have hailed from Limestone County, and three have been from the same family. Here, three generations of the Maples family reflect on their unprecedented service to the Young Farmers program.

The Tuskegee Airmen not only faced the dangers of war with the utmost courage; they were also leaders in the fight for equality. At the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site in Macon County, the stories of these courageous American heroes come to life. Our Melissa Bowman shares her tour of the site and reflections from Sheron Rose, the daughter of flight instructor Sherman Rose.

Brady Peek grew up on a farm. As times changed, his family stopped farming to commit more time to another business venture. But that desire to farm was already deeply planted in Brady’s heart. So, as a 16-year-old, he rented 100 acres of land to plant his own first crop of soybeans. A decade later, he and his wife Anna, a teacher, are raising 1,600 acres of row crops in Limestone County. Meet the Peeks – one of three finalists for the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 2021 Outstanding Young Farm Family award.
