Limestone County is known for its fantastic farmland, but it’s also a breeding ground for leaders of the Alabama Farmers Federation‘s Young Farmers program. Since its creation in 1958, eight of the group’s chairmen have hailed from Limestone County, and three have been from the same family. Here, three generations of the Maples family reflect on their unprecedented service to the Young Farmers program.

Brady Peek grew up on a farm. As times changed, his family stopped farming to commit more time to another business venture. But that desire to farm was already deeply planted in Brady’s heart. So, as a 16-year-old, he rented 100 acres of land to plant his own first crop of soybeans. A decade later, he and his wife Anna, a teacher, are raising 1,600 acres of row crops in Limestone County.
