Show 925 – Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

There’s a museum in Birmingham that scores a touchdown, home run, slam dunk and ace — all at the same time. Covering 33,000 square feet, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is chock-full of memorabilia that celebrates the athletic achievements of Alabamians across all sports.

Anyone who has tried to hire employees knows it’s true — good workers are hard to find. For farmers who need skilled laborers willing to work outside, it’s even harder. Thankfully, there’s the federal H2A program, which allows farmers to contract with guest workers from other countries. As it turns out, the program is a benefit to farmers, the guest workers, and even local workers employed at farms.

The discussion on H2A guest workers continues with the Alabama Farmers Federation‘s Blake Thaxton in the studio. He talks about why farmers need guest workers, what a farmer has to do to participate in H2A, worker protections, and how the program benefits all those involved.

Also, we visit Sweet Grown Alabama member Allen Mills at Prattville Honey Farm to learn more about being a beekeeper and harvesting honey. He’s one of many honey producers you can find easily through an online search at SweetGrownAlabama.org.

It’s a peanut butter cookie and a peanut butter pie all in one. If you love peanut butter, you have to try this Peanut Butter Chess Pie from Stacey Little of Southern Bite. Thanks to the Alabama Peanut Producers Association for making this segment possible!
