Show 916 – Legislators in the Livestock Show Ring

Alabama legislators left committee meetings and bill reviews behind for an afternoon as they stepped in the livestock show ring to learn what it takes to exhibit an animal. A handful of experienced youth livestock exhibitors from across Alabama were on hand to educate legislators on show basics, like how to lead the animal and proper leg placement. The entire experience demonstrated the importance of supporting youth agriculture programs such as livestock shows.

That’s what happened to Noah Mills when he captured an impressive win at the National Barrel Horse Association’s World Championship in 2022. He’s an outstanding young man, and his horse is a pretty good guy, too. Meet them both!

Alabama Cooperative Extension System is back with the Farm and Outdoors segment. Jeremiah Davis and Jesse Campbell provide a tour of the National Poultry Technology Center and the research happening on its campus in Auburn.
Plus, Alabama Farm Credit visits with Sammy Jackson of Ranburne, Alabama. He’s discovered a key to farming — diversification. Jackson runs a feed mill and store with his cousin as well as raising millions of broiler chickens annually and offering gate-to-plate beef.
