Show 1105 – Kentuck Festival of the Arts

The city of Tuscaloosa is no stranger to hosting large crowds, thanks to a certain football team. But this past October, it wasn’t the gridiron that drew thousands to town. It was the drawings, paintings and other works from talented artists of all kinds who participated in the Kentuck Festival of the Arts. For the first time in its 53 year history, the festival moved across the Black Warrior River to Tuscaloosa.

It seems nowadays that everybody on the road is in a hurry, especially in Alabama’s more urban areas. Of course, if you’ve been driving 50 or 60 miles an hour and are suddenly behind a tractor doing 15, it can be frustrating. But you’re about to meet a south Alabama farmer who narrowly escaped what could have been a catastrophic crash.

What’s in season in February? Plenty! There are lots of good, cold season crops you can enjoy fresh from farms this time of year. Sweet Grown Alabama’s Aisling Walding joins us in the studio and shares more about what’s in season right now.

Plus, enjoy a Discover Alabama Extension segment about supporting small businesses. When Victoria Bates needed help with her business in rural Perry County, she turned to Extension and relied on the knowledge agent Katrina Easley had about workforce development to make her dream a reality.

When hosting a get together, it’s always nice to set out a few appetizers. Guests will certainly love this Cheesy Sausage Dip from SouthernBite.com. Don’t be surprised if at the end of the party, all that’s left is an empty bowl!
