Show 1025 – Battling Pine Beetles

Alabama is ranked third in the contiguous U.S. for forested land, but there’s a tiny bug that’s wrecking havoc on pine stands this year. The Alabama Forestry Commission is doing everything they can to inform landowners about this year’s pine beetle infestation and the steps they need to follow to lessen their losses.

Plus, we’re getting close to wrapping up our reflections on 10 seasons of Alabama. Our longtime reporter Melissa Bowman discusses all her favorite highlights from her time with the show.

Mistakes are only failures if you allow them to be. When Amanda Klein dropped an ink blot on her original painting, she could’ve thrown the entire thing out and started over. Instead, she changed that mistake into a success by covering the ink blot and selling the piece as a print. It’s led to the creation of Amanda Klein Co. where she offers her popular prints featuring states and flowers. As her business grew, so did her family. Enjoy learning more about Amanda’s story.

Farming is an appealing way of life, but it’s also a job that doesn’t come with a built-in benefits package of retirement or health coverage.
