Show 1012 – Farm-to-Table Tortillas

Farm to table restaurants are sure to serve up flavorful, fresh meals featuring seasonal fruits and vegetables. It’s not every day, though, that you find a restaurant serving farm fresh tortillas! That is, unless you’re in downtown Mobile. Rooster’s owner Frankie Little has always been committed to serving fresh tortillas for the store’s street tacos. Recently, he’s taken it a step further, by sourcing local corn from a farm and mill and using another local business to make the tortillas. See the whole food chain from Bayou Cora Farms to E & H Tortilleria to Rooster’s!

Burgers… soft serve ice cream… chili dogs… a visit to the Frosty Inn in Russellville might think you’ve stepped back to the ’60s. Keeping with that theme, the hospitality of owner Pam Hester makes everyone feel like family in this close-knit community. Enjoy the nostalgia of a trip to the Frosty Inn.

There’s always new things happening in Alabama farming and agriculture. Often, it can be tough to keep track. The Alabama Farmers Federation produces a weekly podcast — Alabama AgCast — that keeps listeners updated on all those happenings. We welcome Alabama AgCast host Mike Moody to the studio to tell us more about it. Find the Alabama AgCast anywhere you download your favorite podcasts!

We know this is going to be controversial… but hear us out. Sweet cornbread does deserve a spot on the supper table from time to time. Maybe we can all agree that serving them as muffins is a nice way to give eaters the head’s up that this is a sweet version. If you’re game to try it, Stacey Little of Southern Bite shares a perfect recipe for Sweet Cornbread Muffins.
