Show 914 – Haynes Farm – Farm of Distinction October

Alabama farmers do a great job of providing the things we depend on every day — from the food we eat to the clothes on our back and even the roofs over our heads. Every year, the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia, shines the spotlight on outstanding farmers from each of 10 southeastern states. For 2023, the Hayneses of Cullman County have earned the title of Alabama’s Farm of Distinction, and they’ll represent the state at this year’s Expo. We wish them the best of luck and hope they bring home the title of Southeastern Farmer of the Year in October!

For decades, Handey’s Farm & Nursery has served many devoted customers. When Terri Handey lost her husband, she was determined to honor his legacy by carrying on the family business. Her customers are grateful, and her husband would be proud.

Summertime is synonymous with grilling season. This Easy Pea Salad features fresh peas and red onion, and it’s the perfect, crisp-tasting side dish to compliment the charred flavors of burgers and hot dogs. Stacey Little of Southern Bite shares his recipe.

Thanks to Sweet Grown Alabama for making this segment possible. Be sure to check out to find local farmers near you who raise English peas and onions!
