Show 714 – The South Candle

There are certain scents that automatically make your mind drift to Southern springs spent sitting on front porches, like peach blossoms, honeysuckle, and sweet tea. Alabama-based company, The South Candle, has seized tremendous success through Southern-scented candles topped with additional Southern accoutrements like cotton bolls and oyster shells. These candles get their start in Boaz, Alabama, and are available at boutiques across the country, including Everything Alabama in downtown Prattville.

Lots of parents spend hours upon hours at sporting events, cheering their kids on. Now, a growing number are showing their support at a different kind of competition that combines teamwork with technology — robotics. Thanks to programs like VEX Robotics, middle and high school students are honing their engineering skills while learning important life lessons, too! Join us as we head to a regional competition hosted at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School and the virtual state competition headquartered at Auburn University.

Join us as we head to Cullman County and talk with beef cattle farmer Ben Haynes. He provides a little background about his farm and answers these questions:

  • How is raising cattle a business?
  • What type of beef cattle and what type grass produces the tenderest steak with the best fat marbling?
  • What is the difference between grass-finishing and grain-finishing?

Do you have a question about modern-day farming? Send it to us at askafarmer@simplysoutherntv.net, and we’ll do our best to get an Alabama farmer to answer your question.
