Show 1004 – Jefferson Country Store – April/May

*UPDATE* Since this segment first aired, Tony and Betsy Luker have announced changes to the store. It is now closed to daily business, although they still cater and are working on plans for the future. You can check out the Jefferson Country Store on Facebook to get updates on all the things to come.

On a drive through rural Marengo County between Demopolis and Linden, you might not realize you drive through the unincorporated community of Jefferson, except for one retail location — the Jefferson Country Store. Every inch of the store reflects the fun and eccentric style of owners Tony and Betsy Luker, and it’s a great place to enjoy a burger and play cards with friends.

Bill and Vicky Nordan have been married over 50 years, and they share a love for leather-crafting. Bill cobbles custom-made boots, while Vicky sews bags. You can find them making their creations in Robertsdale in south Alabama.

As we get ready to head into the month of May, you might think it’s too late to get a garden going. Not so, though. There are still plenty of things you can still plant right now. Plus, there are certain items that need to be on your “honey do” list to protect your garden and lawns. Mallory Kelley with Alabama Extension joins us in the studio to tell us what those are.

An Easy Apple Galette sounds like a super fancy dessert. But once you see how quick and easy it is to make this yummy dish, you may never want to deal with making an apple pie again. Stacey Little of Southern Bite shows you how to do it.
