Show 1104 – Driskell Family Farm

Across the United States, 95% of farms are family owned and operated. There is no better example of a family farm than Driskell Family Farm in Mobile County. It began in 1911 on 90 acres, and now the fifth generation of the family is getting more and more involved with hopes the sixth generation will eventually want to farm, too.

Alabama claims numerous famous musicians — Hank Williams, Jimmy Buffet and Nat King Cole. The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra is hoping to encourage and highlight the next generation of budding composers through its Alabama Composers Project, where the group plays commissioned pieces from composers who either live in Alabama or are inspired by the state.

Every year, the Alabama Farmers Federation rewards the winner of its Excellence in Agriculture award, which is specifically meant for people who support farmers and the agricultural industry. Meet the 2024 award winners Will and Ali Gotcher of Colbert County. Will serves as CFO for Spruell Farms while Ali is a Regional Extension Agent.

Coleslaw is a favorite Southern side, but this old standard deserves a little makeover. That’s exactly what Stacey Little of Southern Bite does with his recipe for Aunt Mary’s Pepper Sauce Coleslaw.
